Riding Safety

Cycling on public roads carries real risk. Wear a helmet, use lights and bright clothing, follow traffic laws, and ride to your own ability and conditions. Tighten components to the maker's torque values, and take the bike to a qualified shop if you are not sure a repair is safe.

Long days add their own hazards. Heat, dehydration, altitude, fatigue and low blood sugar can all come on faster than you expect, so carry water and food, tell someone your route, and turn around early when the weather changes. A GPS computer is a guide and not a safety device, so keep your eyes on the road and do not operate it while riding through traffic.
